Baltimore Street
.Cumberland, Maryland

.....................................................................................................
An early nickleodeon on Baltimore Street , this theatre was one of two on the block back in the 1910's. I'm still working ion the name of the other, and while in appears both buildings are still standing,( although greatly altered ) neither has shown movies in many years. Three blocks down however, the renovated Embassy Theatre can still be found.

The building with the three story arch ( Hobbies Plus ) is where the Empire Movie house once was. Insurance maps only had it listed as a nickledoen with a second theatre just up the street closer to the railroad tracks. In looking at some old postcards, it was apparent which building was the Empire, and it was nice to see the old theatre still standing after all these years. Most of the downtown theatres in Cumberland have been torn down, with only the Empire, Embassy and a second nickelodeon left still standing. There are also two theatres that have survived in South Cumberland , only a few minutes away from this location.
