![]() The San Toy
Theatre is one of Maryland's longest listed
theatres, going back to at least 1921. Mention of
the theatre was found by Kilduffs in 1926, and
the Film Daily Yearbook has it listed in all the
years we have editions to 1931 to 1952. The
theatre seats between 550 and 825 and includes a
balcony. The building is still standing, but appears
to be vacant.

| ......Before
the larger SanToy Theatre ( seen above ) was
built, there was an earlier smaller theatre one block
south, in the area as seen in the postcard above. That
theatre, which apparently went by the same name, is
found on insurance maps, and burned down many years
ago, with the entire block having long since
being rebuilt. If I am correct, the theatre would have
been the building on the left, with the second floor
railing. The postcard below also shows a nice view of
the building and Main Street. |

Lonaconing also had an Opera
House for many years, just across the creek from the
San Toy. The location is now used as City Hall, and
we're not sure how much, if any of the old Opera House
is currently used in the present building. The City
Hall can be seen as the second building on the left. ![]() |
